Katherine is a systems engineering and assurance practitioner with over 23 years’ international experience in industry and academia. Initially trained as a mathematician and computer scientist, Katherine has led a distinguished 20-year career in rail safety and reliability engineering, specialising in signalling and advanced train control systems. She was the Assurance Manager for the development of Automatic Train Operation and Protection system now operational on London’s Victoria Line. She was also Assurance Manager for Invensys Rail Australia (now part of Siemens), responsible for the management of RAMS across a diverse range of projects in Queensland, Victoria, China, and Hong Kong.
Katherine is a director and principal consultant of Acmena, a systems engineering and assurance consultancy specialising in transport, founded to develop industry best practice in systems engineering. Engaged as a system assurance technical advisor to a number of key rail projects in Australia, she is also an accredited iESM (international Engineering Safety Management) instructor. Having been at the forefront of systems and assurance engineering in the rail industry for the last 20 years, Katherine is a passionate advocate for the use of innovative, practical and carefully executed systems engineering processes being key to the successful delivery of any project.
