Chris Carson is National Director of Program & Project Controls and Associate Vice President for ARCADIS U.S., the leading global engineering and consultancy firm providing Consulting, Engineering, and Program/Construction Management services. Chris is a Leader for the Arcadis Program & Project Controls (PPC) Community of Practice, the PPC training and best practices development center.
He has over 40 years of experience in Program and Construction Management, specializing in the Program & Project Controls disciplines of Planning and Scheduling, Cost Management, Risk Management, Document Control/Contract Administration, and Forensic Analysis/Claims Avoidance/Dispute Resolution. His depth of background in projects includes educational, municipal, commercial, industrial, governmental, military, and medical projects, and a variety of industries including facilities, infrastructure/transportation, ports, water and wastewater treatment and utilities, and environmental projects.

Mr. Carson is active in a leadership position in the professional construction management and project controls industry associations including CMAA (Construction Management Association of America), AACE (Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering) International, RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors), PMI (Project Management Institute) and the Scheduling Community of Practice, CPM (College of Performance Management), and the GPC (International Guild of Project Controls).
As a recognized thought leader in Program/Project Controls and Construction Management professional industry associations, he has received multiple awards. Mr. Carson was the recipient of the 2011 AACE International “Technical Excellence” award, received the 2009 PMI College of Scheduling award for “Significant Contributions to the Scheduling Industry”, and received the “Chairman’s Award” from CMAA in 2006 for contributions to the CM industry.
He was selected as an AACE International Fellow in 2013 “in recognition of professional attainment and significant accomplishment in cost management or cost engineering.” He was selected as the first founding Fellow of Project Controls by the International Guild of Project Controls in 2014, and a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in 2015 for his individual achievement “as well as demonstrating significant career achievements and successes, it demonstrates a passion for developing the industry, sharing knowledge and supporting others in reaching their goals”.

As a top ranked speaker and presenter of over 500 industry sessions, Mr. Carson’s credentials also include over 25 publications from published articles as well as more AACE Recommended Practices, including “Forensic Schedule Analysis”, “Identifying the Critical Path”, “Planning & Accounting for Adverse Weather”, “Original Baseline Schedule Review”, and “Update Schedule Review”. Mr. Carson was an Author and Editor for the book, “CPM Scheduling for Construction – Best Practices and Guidelines” published by PMI in 2014, contributing author for “Construction Project Scheduling and Control”, by Saleh Mubarak, published by Wiley in 2010, and contributing author for the “Time Management Guidelines” and “Claims Management Guidelines” by CMAA, published in 2017/2018.
Mr. Carson is a CMAA Certified Construction Manager (CCM), a Chartered Surveyor by RICS (Royal Instituate of Chartered Surveyors), PMI Project Management Professional (PMP), an AACE International Planning and Scheduling Professional (PSP), Decision and Risk Management Professional (DRMP), and Certified Estimating Professional (CEP).
Chris is married to Deb, with three adult children and seven grandchildren, and has started writing a book about scheduling with his younger son, Leo. He works out of the Virginia Beach office of Arcadis.
